Job Description

We’re seeking an experienced HVAC/R Service Department Head to lead our HVAC Service Team. This individual will oversee technicians responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and customer-facing communication skills. This is a key leadership role, reporting directly to senior leadership and interfacing regularly with clients, vendors, and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the HVAC Service Department, ensuring technician schedules align with service demands.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to HVAC technicians.

  • Hire, train, and mentor HVAC staff to maintain high standards and meet performance goals.

  • Review technician work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with company standards.

  • Maintain strong communication with dispatch and vendors to support timely service delivery.

  • Develop and monitor department budgets, objectives, and profitability.

  • Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, invoices, and work orders.

  • Oversee vehicle fleet maintenance and ensure adequate inventory levels.

  • Promote service agreements and generate bids for new projects.

  • Lead large-scale installation/start-up projects and manage project turnover to clients.

  • Stay current on OEM training and coordinate ongoing technician development.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of HVAC management or a combination of relevant education and experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, codes, and schematics.

  • Proven leadership skills with a focus on productivity and team development.

  • Strong communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask effectively.

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and general office software.

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

  • Willingness to work non-standard hours (nights, weekends, holidays as needed).
