Position Summary

The corporate paralegal will perform a range of duties under the supervision of one or more attorneys in the firms’ Operations department, spending a majority of time on regulatory matters, legal billing and document management. The position interacts not only with in-house attorneys, but also with other key stakeholders and business units. This candidate should have the ability to develop new processes and synthesize data with a strategic mindset. Role Responsibilities

  • Coordinate responses to subpoenas including document collection and organization.
  • Act as point of contact for incoming notices of bankruptcies, liens and levies and coordinate with attorneys to provide direction to third party administrator.
  • Conduct legal research to assist attorneys with special projects for Operations and other corporate departments.
  • Maintain and update the litigation management system and litigation documentation filing.
  • Assist Finance with accurately recording and updating litigation reserves and legal fee accruals.
  • Review invoices from outside counsel and vendors, input legal invoices into the billing system for attorney approval, and processes quarterly billing reconciliation.
  • Responsible for maintaining and organizing corporate business records.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a paralegal in a corporation or law firm required.
  • Knowledge of life insurance/annuities/structured settlements preferred.
  • Expertise in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to consistently solve problems with a high degree of independent decision-making.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work with minimal supervision while exercising the judgment to appropriately discern when to escalate issues.
  • Superior organization skills with the ability to prioritize workload efficiently and effectively, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and must be highly team oriented.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Ability to build business acumen and understand core elements of the applicable business area(s).

Required Education / Certifications

High school diploma (with additional paralegal training) or college degree.

Pay/Location

Hourly rate range for this position in Connecticut is between $35.00 and $45.00. Please note that specific compensation decisions are based upon a variety of job-related factors as permitted by law, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training and experience.
