Position Description: The Center for Experimental & Applied Economics (CEAE) at the University of Delaware seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a postdoc researcher for a one-year appointment, renewable for up to three years dependent on available funding and performance. The selected candidate will contribute to experimental economics research in the Risks, Impacts, & Strategies for Coastal Communities (RISCC) project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This project brings together researchers and community stakeholders from three EPSCoR jurisdictions representing the lowest-lying states in the country–Delaware (DE), Rhode Island (RI), & South Carolina (SC). The overarching goal of this project is to advance convergent science to empower communities that are disproportionately affected by dual, interacting climate hazards–flooding and salinization–to make effective and inclusive adaptation decisions that support long-term climate resilience.
Opportunities: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to co-author several publications, participate in professional conferences and engage with community stakeholders and other agencies working on climate adaptation strategies along coastal communities. The successful candidate will work with economists in CEAE and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Delaware, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. With this team, the successful candidate will contribute to innovative experimental economic research and will have additional opportunities to co-develop decision support systems (DSSs) and educational materials, including economic games. This successful candidate will work on a project team with Drs. Leah Palm-Forster, Christina McGranaghan, and Kent Messer.
The University of Delaware is located in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.. The University is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, Carnegie Research University (very high research activity).
Qualifications:
Applicants are expected to have strong training and experience in experimental and behavioral economics. We are seeking a candidate with experience and interests in applying experimental economics tools to address research questions related to coastal resilience and climate change adaptation. A PhD in economics or applied economics (or closely related field) is required, with a preference for candidates specializing in environmental, agricultural, and resource issues. Strong training in experimental design and interest in community-engaged research is highly desirable. Strong writing and communication skills are required. Experience with writing grant proposals is welcomed, but not necessary.
Application Process: Submit your application via Talent Link to include your CV, a personal statement (cover letter), university transcripts (unofficial transcripts are sufficient), and the names of three references.
We will begin reviewing applications on December 16, and the position will remain open until it is filled.
Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2025 or as negotiated.
